Wushu Concept Photoshoot #2 - Melvin Hseih (Low Key)
So here is the second part of the photoshoot, finally finished processing and uploading. We shot this on the top floor of the Gilman parking structure right as the sun was going down for two main reasons. #1, so that we wouldn’t get caught playing with swords around too many people, and #2 so that we could get some high key shots with some ambient lighting and low key shots with a 3 point flash setup. The low key shots were definitely harder to take and edit, mostly due to balancing the 3 flashes appropriately. But in the end, I think we ended up with some great material. Thanks a lot to Melvin Hsieh for modeling for me, and Filbert Banh for assisting with lighting.
Wushu Concept Photoshoot - Melvin Hseih (High Key)
So I’ve had some photoshoot ideas on my mind ever since this spring quarter. These ideas usually start out as small conceptual bookmarks that I make while going through my daily routine. I’ll be looking through a photoblog or magazine and something will click. Melvin is a good friend of mine. I think we met last year while I was still trying out wushu. We also had some classes together and became more acquainted as I’ve gotten more involved in TASA as well. But he asked me to help him out with a photoshoot and so I thought it would be awesome if he could display some of his wushu on camera for me. This is one of two concepts that I wanted to do, the first being high key and more traditional, while the second is more low key and a little more dramatic. Hope you like, the low key photos will be coming out soon!
UCSD Seniors! We are finally done! Now time to move on to something new!

Here is a small teaser for the event before the pictures go live.
Saw Clara Chung today at her loveprint tour, but this time I was the official photographer. So I didn’t have too much time aside from photographing the event to listen, albeit Clara is a wonderful musician. But for a minute I had to lay down my camera and listen to this song. She dedicated it to her friend, a little ambiguously. But the lyrics could then explain the reasoning behind her appropriation.
So I guess I will also make my own dedication. To the Daphne that we all know.
I hope you will listen.
Dear Daphne
Put him down
That clown of a thing you call a man
Put him down
Put it down
That liquid courage
Too much courage made you foolish now
You’ll drown
You’ll drown
Stay with me
Your eyes are rolling to the back of your head
Stay with me
Remember the things that I said
Til then I’ll be holding your head
Your head
I was there
A dead soul looking for love
In pretty snake holes
You’re now there
You’re opening bombs in gift wrap
Without a care
Get out of there
Get out of there
I see so much of me in you
But only the pages I threw away
From my story
You don’t need
That kind of black and blue
Marking up your heart
Bleeding through all of your pages
